FOR THE BEGINNING GARDENER OR A SEASONED HORTICULTURIST
Our members come from many different backgrounds from all over the region. This makes us a great group that helps the new beginning gardener learn and is also a place for the gardener that has been “playing-in-the-dirt” for many years to share their knowledge with others. Above all, we have fun!
Our ROOTS are in the Greater Grand Forks Area!
PROJECTS AND EVENTS
For a fundraiser, we hold an annual Garden Tour and also a Peony Show. Our members volunteer to host these events which draw people from the surrounding areas. Some tell us that they watch for word when these will happen and they come every year.
Another popular event is one we co-host with the Grand Forks County Extension Service which is an all-day event called Gardening Saturday and held in April at the Alerus Event Center. Each year we bring in a notable keynote speaker that is well respected in the world of horticulture. Some of these speakers are also authors and bring their books to sell and autograph. Some have television shows. All have been informative and entertaining. The rest of the day is filled with informative seminars, vendors, silent auctions, lunch, shopping, etc. We leave the building anxious to get out and start putting our new ideas to work in our own gardens!
Some of the projects in our community that our members work on are in the University Park Rock Garden, The Fannie Heath Memorial Garden at the Myra, the EGF Heritage Village, forming the Japanese Universe Garden, and many other areas that need our help.
So many seeds–so little time.
MEETINGS
September through March we have monthly meetings the third Saturday of the month at 10 am. These meetings include an informative speaker, refreshments, doorprizes, social time, etc. Gardening Saturday is our April meeting. In May we have a Plant Exchange & Potluck. Early summer is when the Garden Tour and Peony Show take place. Often there are tours to other member’s gardens or bus trips that get planned into the summer.
Through the generosity of fellow gardeners, my garden overflows with beauty.
